Last Minute Holiday Hair Styles

December 23, 2013

Season’s Greetings! The holiday season is once again in full swing, and we find ourselves deep into the hustle and bustle of shopping and getting together with friends to celebrate. With so many parties to attend there is always the question, “What will I do with my hair?” If you haven’t made an appointment yet with a hairstylist, don’t stress! I want to share with you a couple of simple DIY (do-it-yourself) ideas for holiday hairstyles that will take away a bit of stress and allow you to look fabulous!

Inverted Ponytail- I find this style easiest to create and accessorize to look fabulous. Start by placing a ponytail either high on your head, low on the back of your head, or even off to the side for a different effect. Once the ponytail is secure, split the hair down the middle at the base and pull the ponytail back through the base. You can have the hair come out of the top for volume, or the through the bottom to be flatter at the nape area. Be creative and add texture with curls or by teasing the hair slightly and then smoothing and tucking under with a hairpin. After pinning, spread out the ponytail to achieve a chignon effect. You can also add a barrette or ornament bobby pins to spice it up! Photos from

Classic Bun- This is another simple and easy DIY look. You can purchase a “doughnut” at most beauty supply stores in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Start by putting your hair in a ponytail wherever you would like the bun to be positioned on your head. Once this is done, pull the ponytail through the center of the doughnut and pin it securely in place with a few bobby pins. Next, spread hair evenly over the doughnut and twist the hair around it, tucking the hair underneath and pinning as you go. You can let some of the ends peak out for an unfinished look or you can keep it very neat. Follow by adding accessories such as pearls, ribbons, pins or even leaving a long strand of hair wrapped around the base. Be as creative as you wish while accessorizing, this is the holidays after all!

These are only a few easy DIY holiday style options. If you do decide to make an appointment with your stylist, it is always helpful to bring a photo or two that will help the stylist visualize what it is that you are looking for. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, and fashionable!

Wishing you a very happy holiday season,
